Top of my wish list for Autumn was a new coat and a new pair of flat ankle boots. I’ve got a trip to Paris in November and these are two key things I need for the trip and for the Autumn/Winter season in general. I successfully got the coat however I’ve bought up-teen pairs of boots and sent back every time as I couldn’t seem to find the right fit, style or shape for me. If the sides come up too high I need to consider how that will work with jeans or trousers I might wear with as being short means most of my jeans need to be rolled up. I like there to be separation between the boots and trousers but with some styles that doesn’t work hence the reason I’ve been trying and failing to find the perfect combination.
I’d tried all of my usual shoe outlets such as Topshop, Zara, Kurt Geiger, Aldo and Office. Aldo have a few pairs I like but I just wasn’t 100% sold on them and as they were at a higher price point, I decided to keep searching. One of the last places I thought I’d find the right pair was Marks and Spencers. I’m in M&S often and usually for food but rarely browse the shoe department. I spotted this pair on the website and was intrigued. I used the stock checker and visited the store the same day to try them on. I didn’t want to place another online order that I’d have to send back.
They were exactly as I expected and a different style than I’d usually go for. It’s good to try new things and I’m trying to embrace that. I tried the size 4 first and felt it was a little big. The 3 was too small and unfortunately they don’t do this style in half sizes which is such a shame as they usually do half sizes. The 3.5 would have been a perfect fit and probably a bit narrower. I liked them too much to leave them behind so I’ll use an insole to make them fit perfectly and it’ll also add some extra cushion although they actually don’t need it as M&S shoes already have very soft interiors.
They are very comfortable and they’ll go well with a lot of the pieces in my wardrobe. My first outfit idea was of course all black and I have to say they go perfectly. I wasn’t sure if the mix of patent and faux suede would mean they’d only go with certain things or smarter styles but I think they look great with casual jeans and a top.
I’ll definitely be taking these to Paris as they will be ideal for all the walking and for the unpredictable weather conditions.
