Dresses – Summer to Autumn Transition

Good Morning,

Wearing dresses through the Summer to Autumn transition is possible by using a few simple tricks depending on the weather conditions:

– Add a chunky knit / shabby chic cardigan if it’s chilly

– Add boots – ankle or knee high work well

– Wear tights

– Wear a vest/thermal layer underneath (depending on the shape/style)

I often disregard dresses around this time of year thinking the weather is too unpredictable and I’ll feel cold but they’re actually very wearable especially by using any of the above tips. Depending on the style of dress, you can easily continue wearing  through to Autumn and potentially beyond. I wore a very similar dress to the one styled in Paris on my birthday last year (see here) by using all of the tips and I wasn’t cold at all.

The dress shown is from River Island and I love the pattern. It’s the perfect mix of Autumnal colours yet it’s not too dark as the white elements lift it overall. The long sleeves with the frills add some volume and make the dress flow nicely. The tie waist helps create a nice hourglass shape which really helps especially if there is a lot of material and if you’re petite. Adding a statement red bag is key as it ties it all together and also helps lighten it up. I’ve worn with lace up shoes but ankle boots or even trainers would work fine if it was too cold for open shoes.
