The last few months have been quite hectic and a challenge to juggle my blog, my job and life in general however for the first time in the 5 years I’ve had this little blog, I feel like things are coming together. Over the course of 2018 I did 4 brand collaborations. I’ve always been firm in only accepting opportunities which are in keeping with my style and in line with my values however as a very very small blogger in a large pool it means there’s not always many options forthcoming. I’m also not really on the ‘scene’ if that make sense, I don’t network, I don’t go to events and therefore not that many people or brands know of me. With the market being so over saturated now, networking & getting your name and face out there is imperative and it’s really the only way to grow and secure the best opportunities.
Despite all of the above, in 2018 I continued to focus on my photography, editing and quality. I was really consistent with posting 3 times per week which was difficult at times to maintain however it was worth it in terms of establishing my brand identity and for my audience to know what to expect from me. I’ve since found a posting schedule of twice a week suits me better and is more realistic in terms of my job and other commitments however is still regular enough for repeat readers to maintain interest. So far this year I’ve done 4 collaborations, one of which is ongoing which is something I’ve been striving for and exactly the type of relationship I want to establish with brands. In comparison to 4 collabs across the entire year in 2018, I’m taking stock and accepting that as good progress. I did have a bit of a wobble at one point last year and thought about giving up however I’m glad I pushed through and maintained the momentum. Blogs are not as popular as they were previously however I’ve always enjoyed and continued to read various different types of blogs regardless of whether other platforms are taking more of a lead these days.
