I’ve returned home from 2 weeks in Mexico and well and truly back to reality. On holiday is the only place I truly relax and while it took me quite a few days to switch off and embrace a slower pace of life compared to the hustle and bustle of normal activities, I really enjoyed not being ‘on’ all the time. Although I had Wi-Fi the entire time and could use my data when out and about, I decided to put my phone on airplane mode quite frequently and I only started posting on Instagram in the last few days of the trip. As cringe as it sounds, I think I needed the digital detox and a chance to find inspiration from real life rather than through my phone, whether that be Instagram, pinterest or blogs. I withdrew myself from the obsessive checking what was happening and instead indulged in reading books or listening to music I haven’t heard in ages which was so delightful. Craving by James Bay was one of those songs I had forgot about but perfectly summed up how I was feeling or ironically not feeling.
I didn’t take any photos the first few days and I was starting to wonder if I would create content at all this trip. At the end of the day, it was a holiday and although I usually feel more creative in a tropical and relaxed environment, it’s not something I can force.
After the first week of taking it easy and enjoying the sun, we started to explore and do some things we haven’t done before. Exploring the Mayan Ruins, discovering more of Tulum and swimming with turtles are just a few examples, all of which helped to re-ignite my inspiration and as a result I was coming up with ideas and jotting notes down. I started to feel more like myself and in the end created some content to document my trip and the memories made which will feature over the next few weeks.
For now, I was excited to share this outfit as it’s probably one of my favourites ever. I don’t usually go for such a girly girl look however it’s good to get out of your comfort zone now and again and in this case I think the outfit was appropriate for the setting which makes all the difference.
The dress is from H&M and you’ve probably seen it everywhere already but it’s such a great buy. The affordable price is partly the reason it’s everywhere but the shape, silhouette and detail really tops it off for me. I picked up the headband as a miscellaneous purchase right before I departed. I wasn’t sure it would suit me but with this overall look, I think it works really well.
The shoes and bag are gifted by Kurt Geiger and are perfect holiday options, easily styled with so many different outfit options.
