Good Morning & Happy Christmas Eve,
I’ve resigned to only wearing teddy coats from now until Spring, it’s way too cold for anything else. This is a new one from Topshop. I somehow seem to buy a teddy coat in a new colour every Winter, it’s almost a tradition now. I wonder if I’ll give up when I’ve covered all bases.
There’s something so cosy about throwing them on with your finest boots, it almost doesn’t matter what you wear underneath, the coat is the show piece. I also think there’s something so luxurious about the shearling/teddy style of coat. When I was in Milan I noticed all the older ladies wearing the exact same coat in a medium brown hue and they just oozed elegance. Some wore with skirts or dresses underneath and heels even though it was minus 5 and ice cold. Others dressed more appropriately for the conditions with trousers and knitwear but the common theme was the coat and a brooch here and there. I think that memory has resonated in my mind and now when I see a coat of a similar style, I’m drawn back to Italy and all the chic older ladies. I hope I’m as a chic when I’m their age.
I’ve styled with faux leather trousers which are all the rage right now. I had a pair a few years ago which I loved and they fit so perfectly that I don’t think any other will ever compare unfortunately. It’s hard to get the balance right with faux leather. Too shiny and they look tacky, too tight and they are unforgiving, not tight enough and they’ll appear cheap. It’s a minefield but worth the risk if you strike gold.
I’ve added my Louis Vuitton boots as they match well with the patent toe and classic canvas body.
Have a great Christmas!
