Summer Skincare Saviours

Good Morning,

We’re well in to the Summer season now and while the weather was better in May/June, there have still been some decent days here and there. My skincare routine is always more minimal in summer / on holidays as there is more opportunity for build up and damage as opposed to winter when the daylight hours are shorter and the air is fresher.

Aside from my usual skincare routine I have a few other particular products which are my summer saviours:

1. Facial SPF

This is non-negotiable and a daily essential. Even if I’m only outdoors for a short period of time, I always have this on as you can see from the condition of the bottle from rolling around in my bag. I have really bad pigmentation on my face which was caused by specific medication I was on a number of years ago combined with sun damage. I’ve always worn SPF 30-50 on my face however my skin was particularly sensitive whilst on the medication mentioned and even with regular application, I’ve lost some pigmentation giving a patchy appearance which is one of my biggest insecurities. It’s most obvious in summer and I now try to cover my face as much as possible when spending time outdoors to avoid it getting any worse and to prevent further damage.

2. Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue

This is my base all year round however in summer it becomes the only thing I put on my face as it’s lightweight and breathable and I don’t want to clog my skin up with a lot of products. I usually use shade 4.5 wheat but in summer I go up to shade 5. Natural to match my face to the rest of my body when I’ve got a bit of a tan. The consistency is perfect for combination skin and it gives sufficient coverage for day to day wear. It’s enough to even out my complexion and gives that bare faced look and feel. If I had an occasion or event I’d layer Bare Minerals Original or Blemish Remedy Foundation on top for additional coverage.

3. Lancaster Tan Maximiser

I started using this as a moisturiser last Summer after hearing about it for years beforehand. I was skeptical about whether it worked especially as it’s a higher price point but after having used it for some time now I can confirm it does help your tan last longer. Moisturising generally will help maintain a tan however this formula is lightweight and non-sticky which is what I love most about it. It also has that typical ‘holiday’ scent which takes me away every time I wear it, even in the middle of winter. While it is on the pricer side for a daily moisturiser, it lasts a decent amount of time and I use it all over.

4. Vita Liberata Body Blur

Anyone else struggle to get an even tan all over? I always end up with some areas darker than others, my legs specifically. I found Vita Liberata Body Blur when I was looking for a tan to use for my brothers wedding. As it was in the middle of winter I didn’t want anything too OTT, just a nice, natural and healthy looking glow. I couldn’t believe the coverage it gave and it literally does what it says, it blurs the skin giving a beautiful even finish. Best of all, you don’t need to wait for it to develop as it’s an instant tan that washes off with soap. You can also build it up to the level you need. I use shade Latte and it’s perfect for adding a subtle glow day to day. As we’re not travelling at the moment, I’m using this for days out or simply whenever I want that sun-kissed glow.
