Herringbone Coat

Good Morning,

Coats are such a big part of my Autumn/Winter wardrobe. I’ve got so many different styles, colours and fits which I bring out each year but I also add in some new options when I find one that I absolutely love.

It’s not always easy to find the perfect fit or style of coat to suit and it’s something that I struggle with being on the petite side. In early Autumn, I came across loads of oversized styles which I loved the look of but had to return each one I’d bought as they just looked ridiculous on me. I see so many people on Instagram looking fabulous in their oversized styles but the reality is, it doesn’t work on my frame.

I kept searching and on 31st October to be exact, I spotted a beautiful grey Herringbone coat in none other than Primark. I wasn’t in there looking for a coat, quite the opposite actually and it’s not the place I would usually consider for such a piece but sometimes we get taken by surprise. There was no option to try it on and all the mirrors were covered over so I couldn’t even hold it up against my frame to see if it would be a good fit. I took the plunge anyway knowing I could return if need be but when I tried it on at home I absolutely loved it on. It was the exact style of fit I was looking for, slightly oversized but not overwhelming with double breasted detail and minimal buttons.

The woven herringbone design is textured and works really well with smooth and contrasting pieces such as my faux leather paperbag waist trousers and YSL quilted LouLou bag. These elements stand out against the grain of the pattern. Herringbone is one of those timeless prints which features regularly and as a result, remains in style. It’s not a trend pattern that will quickly date, it’s one that sticks around which is why I was attracted to it in the first instance.

I’m happy to have added a new coat to my collection at an affordable price and look forward to getting more wear out of it when we’re able to leave the house for any reason other than to do a food shop.
