Good Morning,
In case you hadn’t noticed I’ve been a bit MIA here on the blog for the last few months. It’s something that I wasn’t sure whether to address or let it be but I guess the whole point of having an online forum is to be open and honest. There’s not one specific reason for the hiatus and inconsistent posting, more of a combination of things that have taken priority and my little space here on the world wide web took a back seat. Life gets in the way some times and I’m excited for everything that is happening in the background.
This has always been a hobby but it takes up quite a lot of my evenings and weekends whether it’s writing posts, taking and editing photos, linking all the products and scheduling social media. There’s always something to be doing and there’s never enough time. It’s pretty much the equivalent of having a part-time job on top of my normal day job and I have caring commitments as well. I’m not sure how I managed to maintain the volume of posts and consistency for so long, it’s one of those things that I was in such a routine with and it became my normal. Obviously I wouldn’t have kept it up for all these years if I wasn’t enjoying it and there was no pressure or expectation to keep producing at that frequency. I’ve learned so much and adapted over time with the ability to speed up some of the behind the scenes processes while others have consumed more time and added to the complexities involved.
New platforms have changed the dynamic of how we consume content and blogs in general have faded into the background. Not many still exist which is a shame as it’s still a digital way to connect through imagery and words. I’m a very visual person and of course consume content myself. TikTok and Reels are now dominating the social space and going forward there’s likely to be less demand for advertising and collaborations via blogs and still photography. It’s not to say there won’t be any opportunities however brands are adapting based on what consumers want and for now that’s focusing budgets more towards video content. I’ve done some basic reels and the response is positive and it’s allowed me to reach more people than I do through normal Instagram posts however it’s an additional stream of content which takes time to create on top of everything else. It’s something that I’ve been reflecting on and considering whether I need to shift in a different direction however I always come back to the same point about my blog being the only platform I own and have full control over. 2020 and 2021 have been my most successful in terms of the collaborations I’ve done and ongoing affiliation with brands. This is something I also need to keep in mind however collaborations are have never been the main driving force.
For now, I’m not quite sure how often I’ll be posting over the next few months but I know I’m not ready to give this up just yet. I’ve got a few posts lined up for the coming weeks and I’ll try my best to keep to a regular schedule but it may not be the same days/times or frequency as previously.
Thank you for sticking around and continuing to engage with my content.
xo!
