Stephen Jones Paints the Sky in Hats for Spring 2026
PetitePaulina – Stephen Jones continues to transform hats into stories, and his Spring 2026 collection makes that clear. Titled “A Rainbow in Curved Air,” after Terry Riley’s 1969 album, the line traces the changing sky from sunrise to nightfall.
From Sunrise to Sunset in Style
The collection begins with morning tones that feel playful and radiant. A peach visor hat casts what Jones described as “a golden shadow.” Meanwhile, another design mixes pink feathers with a silk satin eye mask embroidered with cartoonish eyelids, adding a whimsical, almost Muppet-like energy.
As the day progresses, Jones moves into stronger hues. He layers orange and red into striped or embellished sun hats, capturing the heat of midday. At the same time, he pursued his vision of creating “the ultimate blue hat.” That effort resulted in a marine-toned bicorn shape topped with a feathery flourish, evoking both ocean and sky.

Evening Elegance with Umm Kulthum
When night arrives, Jones shifts his inspiration to Umm Kulthum, the Egyptian singer and actress known for her scarves. Drawing from her style, he designed a tiara with a crescent moon. Draped across it are sheer scarves scattered with diamanté stars arranged into zodiac constellations.
“I wanted fashion to feel jolly, entertaining — and inspirational,” Jones said during a preview at his Covent Garden showroom. His words reflected the joyful artistry woven throughout the collection.
A Designer with a Storied Past
This season also connects Jones to his past. He appears in “Blitz: The Club That Shaped the 80s,” an exhibition at London’s Design Museum. The show revisits the nightclub that fueled a wave of creativity, influencing fashion, music, art, and film.
The Blitz years launched icons like Spandau Ballet, Boy George, and costume designer Michele Clapton. Jones played his part in that creative surge too. Reflecting on the exhibition, he called it “a surreal experience,” noting that he never expected the club to become such a central piece of London’s cultural history.
Looking Ahead
Jones will return to the museum on Tuesday, November 4, for a live conversation with designer Charles Jeffrey Loverboy. Together, they will revisit those colorful years and share how the energy of the past continues to inspire fashion today.
